The Carrera Marble Refreshes Living Room Fireplace project transformed a dated wood-burning fireplace into a modern centerpiece that enhances both efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Located in Minneapolis, MN, the homeowners sought to revitalize their living space, opting for gas inserts that offer cleaner and more efficient heating solutions for those chilly Minnesota nights. To achieve the desired transformation while maintaining the existing structure, Rick Jacobson proposed a creative solution: installing a new one-piece “cap type” wooden mantel over the original fireplace. This innovative approach not only preserves the original fireplace but also allows for a streamlined renovation process. The project involved constructing a new fireplace enclosure that elegantly enveloped the existing firebox, significantly reducing labor time and costs while enabling the homeowners to infuse their personal decorating ideas into the design. The heart of the transformation was the installation of a new gas insert within the existing firebox, which provides a modern and efficient heating source. To further enhance the fireplace's appearance, a new hearth was crafted using specially ordered 6-inch square ceramic tiles. This new hearth was meticulously installed level with the existing wood floor, creating a seamless transition and a cohesive look throughout the living room. The crowning feature of this project is the custom-designed mantel, adorned with intricate scrollwork and complemented by 2 X 4 inch Carrera Marble Subway Tile. The elegant marble not only adds a touch of sophistication but also introduces interesting highlights that enrich the room’s ambience. The completed project stands as a testament to skilled craftsmanship and thoughtful design choices, merging functionality with beauty. The new fireplace becomes a focal point of the living room, inviting warmth and comfort while reflecting the homeowners' style and enhancing their overall living experience.
