Ranch Reinvented is a transformative residential project located in the heart of Houston, Texas, designed for a newly retired couple seeking to redefine their living experience after two decades in Richmond. The couple chose an original 1960s ranch-style home, which, while rich in character, featured a traditional layout that separated public and private spaces. With the vision of RD Architecture, the couple embarked on a journey to create a warm, funky contemporary style that would better reflect their lifestyle and enhance their connection to family. The project scope included an extensive reconfiguration of the home’s layout. Public spaces were thoughtfully opened up, fostering an inviting atmosphere that encourages family gatherings and social interactions. A significant architectural feature of the transformation was the installation of a steel beam to reinforce the roof structure, allowing for the addition of a striking twelve-foot-wide accordion-style glass do. This feature seamlessly integrates the indoor living areas with the outdoor space, creating a fluid transition that invites the natural light to pour in and enhances the sense of volume throughout the home. The design choices reflect a commitment to both aesthetics and functionality. Natural materials were selected to create a warm ambiance, while contemporary finishes were incorporated to maintain a fresh, modern feel.
