Stacked stone terraces, comprised of local boulders, not only help to stabilize the hillside and mitigate erosion, but provide an elegant backdrop for colorful plants. The winding paths made of permeable pavers and reclaimed wood serve as an opportunity to explore while allowing for water infiltration into the soil below. One of the distinguishing challenges of this was steep slope stabilization to prevent soil erosion. The team utilized contemporary bioengineering techniques, such as using live willow stakes and coir fiber mats, which encouraged the growth of natural vegetation while stabilizing the slope. The goal was to improve the eco-sustainability of the environment while also allowing for a natural world to occur. The most captivating feature of this garden is the tranquil water element that is designed to enrich the sounds of a natural creek. The play of water on the surface of the pond, surrounded by native ferns and rocks, provides habitat for wildlife while creating a natural oasis for the homeowners.
