Jr High School Bare Dirt Seeding The Grounds Guys of McHenry has recently completed a rewarding landscaping that consisted of seeding a bare dirt area at the local junior high school into a lawn space that would promote both learning and play. Our team was tasked with the large area that had not been seeded before; therefore, careful planning and execution was necessary to see it through to a successful outcome. First, we conducted a comprehensive soil test to identify the optimal seed mix for the climate and soil type of the area to foster growth. Our group selected a premium mix of drought-tolerant grass seed, fittng for the high use expected in an educational setting. In advance of seeding the area, we tackled and addressed the compaction in the soil through a combination of aeration practices and the incorporation of organic material to improve drainage and to increase nutrient retention. When we finally got to seeding the area, weather was proving to be unpredictable and threatening to interfere with our timeline. Our diligent team pushed through with smart adaptations, which included personalized measures to cover the seed while rain fell, and then watering the area to facilitate germination while conserving water. The result is a green, lush grassy area that will serve the school community well. The grass area is an improvement on the visual aspect of campus, but it also adds a safe and visually enticing option for students to partake in outdoor activity. We are proud to have a part of contributing the education of the junior high school with a landscape that will thrive for years.
