About This Project

This multi-level house offered several opportunities to create a exciting entryway with unique retaining and grading design elements. The design is pulled together by a stone retaining wall that breaks only to allow steps up to the paver patio space. This space is flanked by landscaping and another retaining wall that mirrors the previous one. Both create beautiful geometric and organic shapes through the space, and define the entryway of this household. When you pull in, you cannot overlook the retaining wall that defines the stairway. Stone bricks make up its composition and follow throughout the space. Eventually, the wall dies into the landscape but not without make a unique bend and transitioning into an organic flowing shape. Landscaping further defines this feature by playing off of the geometric spaces offered by the retained grade. A blue spruce conceals the vanishing point for the wall, creating a sense that the wall just disappears into the landscape. On the second level, a beautiful paver patio is the main design feature for this space. Utilizing brick pavers, this small space allows for sitting area as well as a place for friends and family to meet up before heading out. The additional feature on this level is a second retaining wall that acts as a seating wall as well. The geometric shape adds definition to the space, and allows for additional room for patio furniture. This modest design creates a truly unique entryway for the residence. A multi-tiered outdoor space approach allowed for more room for meeting and entertaining, as well as defined several spaces in front of this household. Additionally, landscaping and natural features bring in the space and make it fit within the natural woodland surrounding.
