Southeast Asian-Inspired Home by Total Landscape Management Located in the lush landscapes of Oahu, the Southeast Asian-Inspired Home by Total Landscape Management has created an outdoor area, which serves as a serene retreat. The landscaping skillfully incorporates native Hawaiian plants in the setting, while also including common aspects of Southeast Asian culture, including plants that would typically exist in Southeast Asia, as well as structures that reflect that culture. A prominent aspect of the focuses on the care taken, when selecting plants. Plants were incorporated into the design that could be classified as tropical and included the Bougainvillea, Frangipani, and Bamboo. Not only do they provide beautiful colors and foliage, but they thrive well in the climate of Oahu. In consideration of many aspects, it became clear early on that using rich material was going to be a paramount. We gathered and used stone, quarried locally to construct the stone pathways and stone decorative walls surrounding the lawnto fit seamlessly into the existing landscape. There were numerous challengesincluding steep terrain to deal with and varying soil depths. However, after careful consideration and discussion the design, we decided to shift some areas of the landscaping to a tiered gardenin order to create more of a dynamic planting bed. The beds would help allow drainage from heavy rain and create layers of texture and color through plants. The inclusion of a koi pond created another focal point, complete with a natural filtration system for the pond, while enabling us to maintain an aesthetically pleasing space. In the end, we created a truly beautiful outdoor living space. The setting included a pagoda-style gazebo, hand-carved from sustainable teak wood, as well as added lighting, that could be adjusted, to enhance the nighttime functionsdecorating and drawing attention to the landscaping. Overall, the space was captivating, while remaining tranquil, a place to relax and contemplate while creating elegance.
