Profile: Misty Isle Farms Lyon Landscape Architects is excited to present an exciting landscape , 'Misty Isle Farms', located in the bucolic neighborhood of Mercer Island. The was designed to complement the beautiful Pacific Northwest beauty of the property, while maintaining and enhancing existing function and aesthetics. All of the gardens are expansive, and filled with native plants that have been specifically chosen for their ability to thrive in this location, while also being beautiful specimens. Ornamental grasses, perennials, and flowering shrubs create an abundance of color throughout the different seasons. Stone pathways, made from local basalt, connect the different spaces throughout the property by designed visitors to explore with easy access in a lush environment. One of the larger challenges for this was the steep grade of the site along with existing drainage problems. Our team was able to create terraced gardens that addressed the drainage and sloping issues, while also creating usable space for outdoor gatherings. Natural stone was used to create the retaining walls to minimize soil disturbance while also providing a visually interesting structure. A water feature adds an extra layer of tranquility while creating additional habitat for local wildlife. The sound of water resonates throughout the site and works beautifully with the surrounding lush environment to create a relaxing escape for the family. The end product of Misty Isle Farms has turned the property into a stunning backdrop to the family’s lifestyle and values.
