The Mel Hamilton Residence is a stunning transformation of an old adobe structure nestled in the serene Tesuque, New Mexico. This project involved a meticulous remodel of the existing home, culminating in the addition of a 400 square foot adobe bath suite that elegantly melds modern design with traditional Southwestern elements. As the executive designer, I had the privilege of overseeing every aspect of this ambitious project, from initial design drafting to the intricate details of contractor and subcontractor management, ensuring a seamless execution throughout. The design choices made for the bath suite reflect a deep understanding of architectural space and materiality, principles that Mel Hamilton, an Interiors Hall of Fame Inductee, embraces wholeheartedly. The use of locally sourced adobe not only pays homage to the region's heritage but also enhances the home’s thermal performance, creating a naturally comfortable environment. Each material was chosen with intention, balancing aesthetics with functionality, and the result is a harmonious blend of rustic charm and modern sophistication. Craftsmanship was paramount in this project, as skilled artisans meticulously worked to maintain the authenticity of adobe construction while integrating contemporary fixtures and finishes. The bathroom features expansive natural light, thanks to strategically placed windows that frame picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. The layout is designed to promote tranquility, with thoughtful touches such as a soaking tub positioned for relaxation and a spacious walk-in shower that features natural stone accents. The outcome of this project is not just a beautiful bathroom but a sanctuary that embodies simplicity and elegance.
