Michigan Dunes Outdoor Living by Hollandia Outdoors Located in the relaxed setting of Michigan's coastal landscape, the Michigan Dunes Outdoor Living renovated a commonplace backyard into an elevated outdoor experience. Serving the charming towns/rural communities of Beechwood, Hamilton, Holland, Macatawa, West Olive, Zeeland, Saugatuck, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Hudsonville, Fennville, and Allendale - Hollandia Outdoors carefully designed the location with excellent functional outdoor living and the natural beauty of the state in mind. The included a large multi-level deck made of sustainable composites that can withstand the elements and are efficient and beautiful long-term for family and summer BBQ's. The sophisticated and seamless design of the decking naturally compliments the topography in a way that doesn't take away from the majestic views of the dunes. A custom stone fire pit surrounded by seating walls was coordinated with the deck as a gathering space in the evenings to enjoy the fire and star gazing amongst their friends. In addition to the deck, native planting was planned and installed, which will thrive in the local climate conditions and support the local ecosystem. Moisture-loving perennials, a mix of grasses, and multicolored ornamental shrubs were brought together to deliver vibrant color and texture throughout the year, and a winding graveled path was installed to cue guests through the thick plantings. One of the main difficulties we faced was the steep grade of the property and the need for infrastructural land grading and retaining walls to create usable space without ending the natural flow of water on the property. Our team worked diligently to ensure we did not forego drainage or stability, while keeping a naturalistic appearance in the landscape. The result is a beautiful and functional outdoor living space that really excited our clients, allowing them to enjoy the Michigan outdoors.
