In this remarkable transformation, the kitchen of a University City, MO home was meticulously remodeled to reflect a modern aesthetic while honoring the mid-century design of the original 1953 ranch. After eight years of living in their home, the homeowners sought to replace their traditional dining setup with a contemporary kitchen island, enhance the flooring, and upgrade their appliances. The goal was not only to modernize the space but also to flood it with natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The design process was guided by the Mosby designer's keen eye for clean lines and functionality, resulting in a sleek kitchen that seamlessly integrates with the home's mid-century roots. The choice of flat-front maple cabinets in a satin white finish imparts an airy feel, making them appear to float above the stunning white quartz countertops. This choice of material not only enhances the modern look but also provides durability and ease of maintenance. Underfoot, a warm bamboo floor adds a touch of natural warmth, contrasting beautifully with the cabinetry and countertops. To complement the modern cabinetry, a limestone backsplash was selected, offering a subtle textural contrast against the sleek surfaces while enhancing the overall design. Stainless steel appliances were integrated to provide both functionality and a modern touch, ensuring that the kitchen is equipped for all culinary endeavors. The strategic addition of two skylights invites an abundance of natural light into the space, while under-cabinet LED rope lighting adds a cheerful glow, even on overcast days. A nod to the home’s original design is found in the charming pendant light above the sink, an authentic 1953 vintage piece repurposed from the basement rec room.
