About This Project

The Deer Park Drive project in Roanoke, VA, transformed a traditional layout into a stunning contemporary space that embraces an open floor plan. The objective was to create a seamless flow between the kitchen, dining, and living areas, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. To achieve this, we executed a significant structural modification by opening a large cut-out in the wall between the living room and kitchen, and removing the wall that separated the dining room from the kitchen entirely. This strategic alteration not only increased visibility but also fostered a more inviting atmosphere for family gatherings and entertaining. Central to the design is the addition of a long center island that serves multiple purposes. This beautifully crafted island features ample storage and offers table-style seating at the dining room end, making it the perfect spot for casual meals or socializing. The two-tone finish on the Shaker cabinets—featuring crisp white paint combined with rich espresso—creates a striking contrast that enhances the contemporary feel of the space. The combination of these colors adds depth while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic. The countertops, made from Giallo Verona, introduce a warm, earthy tone that complements the cabinetry and ties the design together harmoniously. For the backsplash, we selected easy-care Florida Tile, specifically the Polished Subway Porcelain in Renaissance Grigio, which not only adds a touch of sophistication but also ensures practicality in maintenance. The result of these thoughtful design choices and meticulous craftsmanship is a breathtaking kitchen that seamlessly integrates with the dining and living areas. The wall-to-wall narrow bank of built-in cabinets at the dining room end extends the look and feel of the kitchen while providing an abundance of storage and a spacious serving area. The Deer Park Drive project exemplifies how effective design can transform a home, creating a functional yet stylish environment that caters to the needs of modern living.
