The Abrams project involved a transformative renovation of a spare room into a fully accessible handicap shower designed specifically for the client’s granddaughter. This thoughtful endeavor began in 2015 and was executed with a keen focus on functionality and comfort, resulting in a space that not only meets practical needs but also enhances the overall aesthetic of the home. The design process prioritized seamless accessibility, which necessitated a significant modification of the existing layout. To achieve a barrier-free shower experience, the entire floor was lowered, allowing the shower floor to merge with the bathroom floor, thereby eliminating any thresholds that could pose challenges for mobility. This innovative approach not only facilitated ease of access but also contributed to a sleek and cohesive look throughout the bathroom. The selection of materials played a pivotal role in this project; we opted for slip-resistant tiles that provide safety without compromising style, ensuring that the space is both beautiful and practical. In addition to the shower, the renovation included the installation of a new vanity that features ample storage and a modern design, enhancing the functionality of the space. A comfort-height toilet was also incorporated, further prioritizing usability for those with mobility concerns.
