Nestled in the picturesque neighborhood known as “Mansion Hill” in Ft Thomas, KY, the Kirker-Fischer House stands as a testament to bold design and meticulous craftsmanship. Originally a 2-story brick home with an elegant interior, its exterior lacked the character that would allow it to shine among the grand 3-story Italianate houses nearby. When the new homeowners expressed their desire for a standout house, they envisioned an audacious all-black facade that would transform their residence into a local landmark. Their sophisticated vision was realized through an expertly curated color palette featuring deep gray, dark purple tones, and five distinct blacks, artfully accented with metallic copper. The project began with an extensive restoration process, as the house had suffered from years of inadequate maintenance and hasty repairs. Previous layers of paint obscured the intricate carved stone details, and much of the existing paint was inadequately adhered to the brick substrate. Our skilled team undertook the laborious task of hand-scraping old paint from the brick walls, while also sanding the trim to a smooth finish. In areas where the wood window trim was too scarred to restore, we clad them with new poplar molding, ensuring that the home retained its historical essence while embracing a modern aesthetic. Additional carpentry work included minor repairs to the fascia boards and the addition of a decorative line of trim on the front porch roof, further enhancing the overall appeal of the home. After meticulous preparation, we devoted two weeks to a highly detailed painting plan that accentuated each architectural element, maximizing the visibility of intricate details. The final touch was achieved with Sherwin-Williams Emerald and Resilience top coats, resulting in a stunning exterior that not only met but exceeded the homeowners’ expectations. The project, completed by a dedicated three-person crew in three weeks, was ultimately recognized by American Painting Contractor magazine with the prestigious Top Job Award in the category of restoration, solidifying the Kirker-Fischer House's place as a remarkable gem in the community.
