The Traditional gone Contemporary Modern project involved a comprehensive transformation of a traditional kitchen into a sleek, contemporary space that resonates with the owners' modern aesthetic. Located in Lincoln, NE, this project commenced in 2014 and aimed to enhance both functionality and visual appeal. The design process began with the strategic shortening of the two side walls leading to the dining area, effectively opening the kitchen to the surrounding space. This change not only created a more inviting atmosphere but also framed picturesque views of the backyard and pond, merging the indoor and outdoor environments seamlessly. In reimagining the kitchen, a key design choice was the installation of painted frosted glass doors, which replaced the original oak doors leading to the laundry, powder bath, and closet area. This modern feature maintains privacy while offering a contemporary flair that aligns with the overall design ethos of the project. The cabinetry selected for the kitchen consists of Crestwood Frameless cabinetry in a sophisticated grey Quarter Sawn Oak, complemented by stainless steel doors adorned with frosted glass. This combination of materials not only enhances the kitchen's modern aesthetic but also ensures durability and functionality. The choice of Caesarstone Quartz countertops in a contrasting white color provided a clean and simple work surface, perfect for both cooking and entertaining. The backsplash was expertly designed with linear glass tile arranged in a contemporary stacked pattern, adding texture and visual interest while maintaining a cohesive look. A significant feature of the kitchen design was the raising of the cabinetry for the oven, which not only improves accessibility but also showcases the bespoke craftsmanship involved in this project.
