Steps, Pathways, & Patios • 2006-2019 A of Verne Pershing, The Art of Gardening At last, a magnificent example of what can happen when landscaping is done with a level of thoughtfulness. Over a period of 13 years in beautiful El Dorado County, Verne Pershing and his team of professionals constructed an endless set of pathways, inviting sets of steps, and patios. Each new feature was carefully identified for suitability for the region - Cameron Park, Camino, Coloma, and beyond. The features a variety of the finest materials - all locally sourced stone, extremely durable pavers, and natural timber, all used to create a stunning landscape that will endure for generations. Each path was designed to guide patrons around the peaceful gardens, but also was strenuously designed to endure what the weather patterns throw at it. Permeable surfaces also implement drainage aspects and sustainability efforts, and slow erosion (of massive importance in the steep, hilly areas of Shingle Springs/Pollock Pines). The paths were many times challenged with terrain that featured steeply inclined, rocky, hard packed conditions. A bit different than when you are building up a flat yard, however, with the ingenuity of the engineering issues, the paths shape, directions, and slopes presented opportunities to create safe, accessible steps and pathways that respected the natural topography. The native plants along and around the pathway edges all further tied the pathways’ design into its activity - the pathways grew in seasons and time through colors and textures. No less, all paths incorporated the natural vegetation into the planned living landscape. The paths culminated in gorgeous patios, which provide the best outdoor 'living rooms' worthy of entertaining guests or relaxing. Each patio utilized technical aspects one may consider when making a perfect outdoor living area, hospitality within, in- ground seating, and ambient lighting to enjoy any time of day. The finished product, satisfied clients! They comfortably appreciate their wonderful outdoor living spaces. Quality construction matters, a solid understanding of the environment, improvement of the property’s aesthetics, transformation of the sustainable value of the property for the usability were successfully achieved.
