Coastal Property Perennial Border Summary The Perennial Border Coastal Property reflects the thrown together brilliance of coastal landscaping but addresses environmental contextual issues present in the North Falmouth, West Falmouth, Woods Hole, and Chatham areas by BlueFlax Design LLC. So, our masterful staff created a beautiful perennial border that looks great on this property, and they love those sandy soils and pet salty breezes of Cape Cod and SE Mass. Everything was the result of an arduous selection process; many native perennials were selected for their beauty and ability to survive. For varieties, we included seaside goldenrod, black-eyed Susans, and lavender providing something to witness, 365 days a year, and drawing in good pollinators. We used natural materials (locally sourced stone for edging, plus decorative gravel to ensure proper drainage) to keep it rustic and visually interesting. The site is exposed to strong coastal winds and to soil moisture fluctuations; these were two of the main challenges that we could foresee. Our partner team mapped out a planting design, clustering by water-needs and implementing more wind tolerant species to create a dense and welcoming border while surviving the environmental elements. The irrigation was also done in an efficient manner, allowing for the plants to be hydrated but minimizing waste runoff. The end product is a stunning perennial border that marries the previous ocean land with the surrounding land and allows the property to recede visually into the natural beauty of the landscape. Our client was very pleased with the outcome and said that the plants provided them with both texture and color keeping their garden alive but tranquil especially with how time consuming it can be to spend outdoors.
