Carefully crafted and executed, this is a versatile outdoor space that is a perfect compliment to the coastal environment. The centerpiece of the Vestal was the development of a garden filled with an extensive variety of native plants that have been purposely chosen for their hardiness and minimal upkeep. We used native plants with colorful beach grass, hydrangeas, and lavender to achieve colorful blooms and an ecological balance. With the introduction of natural stone pathways and granite boulders, the combination of durable, functional materials at complement to the island’s rough coastline balance both beauty and ruggedness. One of the key difficulties we encountered was dealing with the ground conditions, which is variable nature typical in the region. After convincing the city to allow us to take soil tests, our experienced team implemented a customized soil amendment plan, setting every planting up for success. Also, the demanded for innovative drainage mechanisms to ensure that rainwater was channelled appropriately so that the rain did not erode the land and destroy the landscaping. The completed Vestal is a stunning outdoor space that blends beautifully in nature. The sophisticated seating areas, netted takashima style in its swaying of grasses, invite moments of reflection, aided by thoughtfully careful lighting that lets the beauty of the garden speak through the night. The end result left the client absolutely ecstatic, and they were excited to share that the space not only suited their vision but added even more character to their property.
