The Barn Inspired Guest House, nestled west of Durango, CO, on a sprawling 40+ acre parcel, is a remarkable ground-up design and build project that seamlessly marries history with modern rustic charm. The site is graced by a preserved homesteaded cabin, once a retreat for the iconic western author Louis L’Amour, who used it as a sanctuary for his creative endeavors in the 1920s. This historical backdrop adds significant character to the new build, which stands just 150 feet away, providing guests with a unique connection to the past. Designed to evoke the spirit of the original homestead, the guest house features an open floor plan that encourages both relaxation and socialization. Natural materials such as reclaimed wood and stone were meticulously chosen to enhance the rustic aesthetic while ensuring durability and sustainability.
