About This Project

The Residential Basement Polish + Stain project in Auburn, IN, undertaken in 2016, transformed a standard basement into a vibrant and inviting space designed for family gatherings. The homeowners envisioned a comfortable area where their children could play and socialize while maintaining a cohesive feel with their Craftsman-style home. After discussing various options, we collaboratively decided that a darker reactive stain would enhance the warmth and charm of the basement, aligning perfectly with the aesthetic the clients had in mind. The process began with meticulous planning and preparation to ensure a clean and efficient job site. We laid down RAM Board to protect the flooring throughout the house, and taped 24-inch plastic sheeting to the basement walls to prevent any damage. The existing concrete floor, which had a few noticeable cracks, was treated as an opportunity rather than a flaw. Our skilled team filled these cracks with a specialized patching product, embracing the unique character they brought to the overall design. The floor was then subjected to an extensive five-step polishing process, which commenced with grinding to achieve a smooth base. We applied a concrete reactive stain in the rich, deep hue of Wenge Wood, chosen to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. This was followed by our two-step concrete densification and stain-guard sealing process, ensuring durability and a long-lasting finish. The final touch brought the floor to a polished 800-grit level, revealing a sleek, reflective surface that beautifully complemented the overall design of the basement. The completed project not only met but exceeded the clients' aspirations, providing a multifunctional space that seamlessly integrates style, comfort, and functionality. The collaboration with Arbor Homes during the subsequent construction phases further enhanced the basement's appeal, making it a cherished area for family bonding and relaxation.
