The South Hill Craftsman project represents a remarkable transformation of a challenging outdoor space into a beautifully functional area for relaxation and entertainment. After the homeowners completed an extensive remodeling of their 1905 Craftsman house, they turned their attention to the yard, which required both aesthetic enhancements and structural improvements. The front yard saw a straightforward upgrade with the addition of a new walkway and thoughtfully chosen plantings. However, the steep, wooded backyard presented a more complex challenge. The initial focus for the backyard was addressing the failing retaining wall. This critical structural component needed rebuilding to create safe access to the previously overgrown area, which was fraught with hazards and untapped potential. By employing high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship, the new retaining wall not only provided necessary support but also blended seamlessly with the natural landscape, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal. With the structural integrity established, the focus shifted to the design and layout of the outdoor living spaces.
