The Mid-century Entry project revitalizes a classic 1966 home in the Ann Arbor Hills neighborhood, transforming its exterior into a welcoming and functional space that honors its architectural heritage. The original entry was narrow and uninviting, presenting challenges in navigation and functionality. The scope of the project involved a comprehensive update, focusing on enhancing the entryway while ensuring that the home's mid-century modern aesthetic remained intact. A key feature of the renovation is the new, wider front porch, which replaces the old entry structure. This expansive porch, with a stair that opens directly toward the entry walk, invites guests and residents alike, creating a more cohesive flow into the home. The old sagging roof overhang has been replaced by a generous porch roof that not only adds visual appeal but also offers protection from the elements. To ensure durability and ease of maintenance, low-maintenance composite decking has been installed, replacing the aging and warped wood previously used. In terms of aesthetics, the project maintains the integrity of the original stained redwood siding while introducing a fresh contrast through the repainting of the plywood accents in a lighter shade of gray. This subtle yet effective color palette enhances the home's overall appearance, making it more inviting while remaining true to its mid-century roots.
