About This Project

The Home & Hearth project transformed an underutilized sunken living room into a vibrant and inviting space that now serves as the heart of the home. Located in Essex, VT, this project began in 2017 when our clients, a young professional couple with three school-age children, approached Cultivation D/B with the challenge of maximizing their living area. The original layout posed significant constraints, with a fireplace positioned off-center and awkward linear proportions that made it difficult to arrange furniture for both comfort and social interaction. Our design team envisioned a solution that would not only enhance functionality but also elevate the aesthetic appeal of the space. We opted for a contemporary design approach, incorporating a harmonious color palette featuring soft white walls that provide a bright, airy feel, complemented by striking blue flooring that adds a modern touch. The existing masonry fireplace was reimagined with an updated stone finish, creating a focal point that draws the eye and invites warmth into the room. To optimize the layout, we carefully selected furnishings that promote engagement and relaxation. Custom seating arrangements were crafted to encourage conversation and family gatherings, while also providing a clear view of the fireplace. The integration of versatile shelving and lighting fixtures enhanced the room's overall ambiance, ensuring it could transition seamlessly from day to night. The craftsmanship of this project reflects our commitment to quality and attention to detail. Each element, from the choice of materials to the final finishes, was meticulously selected to create a cohesive space that resonates with the family’s lifestyle. The outcome is a revitalized living room that not only meets the functional needs of our clients but also embodies a warm, contemporary aesthetic that they and their children can enjoy for years to come.
