About This Project

The Contemporary Shaker Kitchen project in Elkhart, IN, masterfully transforms a once cramped and traditional space into an open, bold, and contemporary culinary haven. The original kitchen was dominated by a constricting peninsula that, while offering some seating, severely limited appliance placement and workflow. This layout created a challenging environment, particularly with the awkward positioning of the sink and dishwasher, making everyday tasks cumbersome. Recognizing the potential for improvement, our design approach focused on removing the peninsula, which not only enhanced the kitchen's spatial dynamics but also significantly improved efficiency and flow. With the elimination of the peninsula, the kitchen now features a seamless connection to the dining area, allowing for comfortable in-kitchen seating without the previous restrictions. The design incorporates timeless Shaker-style cabinetry, painted in a sophisticated on-trend grey and white palette, which provides an elegant backdrop for the rich, dark granite countertops. The bold backsplash, featuring a vibrant mix of colors and textures, adds a striking visual element, complemented by a sleek matchstick tile design that ties the entire aesthetic together. Our attention to detail is evident in the craftsmanship throughout the kitchen. The installation of under-cabinet lighting, along with strategically placed fixtures above and within the cabinetry, beautifully highlights the visual features while enhancing functionality. The incorporation of stainless steel appliances adds a modern touch, ensuring that the kitchen is not only stylish but also equipped with the latest technology for culinary pursuits. The result is a stunning, mid-sized transitional kitchen that epitomizes both form and function.
