About This Project

The Boettcher Family Retreat, located in the serene setting of Nisswa, MN, is a remarkable project that beautifully marries rustic charm with modern comfort. Commencing in April 2016, this endeavor involved a thoughtful light remodel of the home’s interior alongside a substantial exterior addition, transforming the space into a welcoming retreat for family gatherings and relaxation. The interior remodel was approached with an eye for detail, featuring a fresh coat of paint throughout most rooms, complemented by meticulous touch-ups to hallways and ceilings. To maintain consistency and enhance the home’s character, custom matching trim was skillfully recreated and installed where necessary. A standout feature of this project is the handcrafted, stained exterior doors that grace every entry point, as well as select interior doors, ensuring both security and aesthetic appeal. The exterior beams were custom cut from re-purposed storm-damaged wood, sourced from our chainsaw mill, which not only adds a unique touch but also emphasizes sustainability in construction. The addition of a spacious rear deck further elevates the property, featuring convenient entrances from each bedroom and luxurious amenities including a hot tub and a sauna kit, all stained to harmonize with the overarching design. The guest cabin received a refreshing facelift, showcasing new paint that complements the overall rustic aesthetic. Additionally, casual wood chairs were refurbished, enhancing the outdoor experience. Two sheds were also integrated into the landscape, providing functional storage while maintaining the retreat’s cohesive design. The Boettcher Family Retreat exemplifies a successful blend of craftsmanship and thoughtful design choices, resulting in an inviting space that captures the essence of rustic elegance, perfect for family memories to be made for years to come.
