This project emerged from a practical need, as my wife, Lisa, often transformed various areas of our home into makeshift seed starting zones in preparation for her summer garden. After observing our guest bathroom morph into a tomato grow zone, it became clear that a dedicated space was essential for her gardening activities. Initially intended as a simple potting shed, the design evolved into a unique structure showcasing the ancient Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, which involves the charring of wood to enhance its durability and aesthetic appeal. The craftsmanship of the shed reflects a thoughtful combination of functionality and artistry. The charred wood siding not only provides a distinctive, contemporary look but also offers superior protection against the elements, ensuring longevity. The deep, rich tones of the burnt wood contrast beautifully with the surrounding garden, creating an eye-catching focal point.
