The Living Room Makeover project in Mohawk, NY, was a delightful endeavor that transformed a traditional Victorian space into a serene French Country/Shabby Chic retreat. The client envisioned a room that radiated comfort and charm, moving away from the ornate features of the Victorian style. To achieve this, we focused on creating an airy atmosphere filled with soft, muted colors and rustic elements that evoke the warmth of countryside living. The project began with an assessment of the existing space, which included heavy draperies and dark wood furnishings that felt constricting. We opted for a lighter color palette featuring soft whites, pale blues, and gentle pastels to enhance the room's brightness. The walls were freshly painted with a subtle off-white tone, creating a clean backdrop that complemented the shabby chic aesthetic. We incorporated vintage-inspired wallpaper on an accent wall, adding texture and character while maintaining the light, inviting feel. Furniture selection was crucial in this makeover. We sourced a comfortable, overstuffed sofa adorned with floral patterns and paired it with distressed wooden coffee tables that exuded a rustic charm. The choice of materials, including soft linen and cozy cotton fabrics, contributed to a relaxed ambiance. Accessories such as lace curtains, antique mirrors, and carefully curated decorative items were thoughtfully placed to enhance the French country theme while providing personal touches that reflect the client’s taste.
