Collaborating closely with a talented interior designer based in St. Louis, we set out to create a distinctive "copper patina" effect that would gracefully complement the contemporary style of the residence. The project encompassed two insets, a hallway, and a bathroom, allowing us to showcase the versatility of this unique finish throughout various spaces. To achieve the desired visual impact, we began with a modified metallic base that served as the foundational layer. Following the approval of a detailed sample board by the designer, we proceeded to apply a verdigris glaze, enriching the surface with depth and character. The application process involved intricate hand-stippling techniques, resulting in a textured finish that reflects light beautifully and adds dimension to the walls. After completing the decorative layers, we sealed the finish with two coats of varnish, ensuring durability and a polished appearance. During the application of the final layer, the homeowner was present and expressed a desire for a softer interpretation of the finish than initially suggested by the designer. Embracing this collaborative spirit, we made slight adjustments to the application, ultimately achieving a look that resonated perfectly with the homeowner's vision. The final result was a stunning, serene ambiance that transformed the insets into focal points within the dining room and other areas, embodying a unique blend of artistry and design. This project, completed in 2015 with a budget range of $2,501 to $5,000, exemplifies not just the craftsmanship involved in creating a custom decorative finish but also the importance of client collaboration in the artistic process. The outcome is a harmonious blend of elegance and modernity, perfectly suited to the contemporary setting of the luxury condo.
