About This Project

The Open Concept Kitchen project in Richmond, VA, exemplifies a harmonious blend of modern functionality and classic aesthetics. The transformation commenced with the removal of a load-bearing wall that separated the dining room from the living room, creating an open and airy space conducive to both entertaining and everyday family activities. This structural change was expertly supported by the installation of an LVL support beam and a centrally positioned bearing column, ensuring the integrity of the home while maximizing the flow of light and movement. In the dining area, the existing window was replaced with a stunning 5/4x6/8 Thermatru French double door, which not only enhances natural light but also provides seamless access to outdoor spaces, further expanding the kitchen's utility. The flooring underwent a significant upgrade, with the old vinyl removed and replaced by rich new hardwood, adding warmth and a sense of continuity throughout the open layout. The heart of the kitchen is defined by the installation of Elmwood Stuttgart cabinets, which feature ¾” frameless wood print melamine boxes. The cabinets are accentuated with a sophisticated 2 ¾” rail, raised panel doors, and drawers, all finished in an elegant Dove White Oyster hue. The island cabinets stand out with a bold Knights Armor finish, providing a striking contrast that enhances the overall design. Complementing these beautiful cabinets are the Silestone Quartz countertops in Iron Bark, measuring 3 cm, which provide both durability and a sleek, modern appearance. The island's countertop is crafted from Cambria Quartz in Oakmoor, further elevating the kitchen's aesthetic with its rich tones and textures. The thoughtful design choices and meticulous craftsmanship culminated in a breathtaking open concept kitchen that not only meets the needs of the modern homeowner but also serves as an inviting space for gatherings, making it a true centerpiece of the home. This project, completed in 2017 with a budget between $75,001 and $100,000, stands as a testament to timeless design and functionality.
