The Historic District Retreat, nestled in the charming Lafayette Square area of St. Louis, represents a meticulous renovation of a once-neglected historic property. This project was driven by a commitment to preserving the ornate architectural details that define the essence of the home while simultaneously modernizing its layout to enhance livability and functionality. The transformation focused heavily on the kitchen and bathrooms, which underwent extensive redesigns to align with contemporary lifestyles while respecting the historic character. In the kitchen, we expanded the existing space by strategically pushing back one of the walls, allowing for a more open and inviting layout. The inclusion of elongated subway tiles and a refined marble composite countertop not only modernizes the aesthetic but also complements the rich woodwork that remains a focal point throughout the home. Each choice of material was carefully considered to maintain the historic integrity while embracing a fresh, modern feel. The master bathroom, previously a parlor room, was completely reimagined, which required the installation of all new plumbing to accommodate contemporary fixtures and amenities.
