Natural Landscapes by KI Concepts In the Hawaiian Islands, KI Concepts proudly revealed "Natural Landscapes," a meaningful landscaping development that merges the essence of nature with design. The design included an abundance of native plants and materials derived from nature, selected carefully to accentuate the local climate, function and create places for biodiversity. Materials used such as the local stone for pathways, trellises made of wood and reclaimed wood for raised garden boxes, helped to emphasize a natural look and to connect the landscape with its environment. The plants were all sustainable in their specific landscapes followed by the use of permeable paving stones, encaustic tile, treatment system, and engineered fabric and wood. Perhaps the most significant challenge was the site grading, which presented engineering challenges of its own. Aspects that undertook creative engineering descriptions were instantly tiered gardens. Organically contoured tiered gardens were constructed with the intent of meeting the challenges of water movement through a continual slope where visual interest and surface drainage system were also key. Our landscape architects had a consultant for the local botanist selection of plants that were able to live with heavy rain and that supported the ecosystem. The end result was remarkable. Now, Natural Landscapes is a calming environment with pathways and bubbly beds of colorful flowers all framed with the beauty of calming waters and soothing sounds. Natural Landscapes includes several places to reflect or quietly explore. Clients reported their satisfaction of the integration in functional outdoor living spaces with shaded places to sit and listen to the winds breezing through the leafy trees and thick vegetation.
