The Mediterranean Remodel project, initiated in 2018 with a budget ranging from $100,001 to $150,000, aimed to transform a traditional Mediterranean home while preserving its unique character. Our primary goal was to de-Mediterraneanize the space, modernizing the design elements without losing the home’s inherent charm and warmth. The original design featured ornate details such as faux painting, heavy iron inserts, and a grand fireplace surround that, while beautiful, felt overwhelming in a contemporary context. One of the most striking features was a stunning chandelier imported from Italy, valued at $100,000, which required a team of four people to carry due to its impressive size and weight. Our approach involved a careful selection of materials and craftsmanship that respected the home's historical roots while introducing a fresh, modern aesthetic. In executing the remodel, we focused on simplifying the color palette and minimizing the ornate details that characterized the original design. The heavy iron inserts were replaced with sleek, contemporary fixtures that offered both functionality and style. The fireplace underwent a significant transformation, converting the elaborate surround into a more understated and elegant design that serves as a focal point without overpowering the space. The living areas were reimagined with open layouts that encourage flow and interaction, complemented by modern furnishings that echo the Mediterranean influences without mimicking them. The result is a harmonious blend of old-world charm and modern sophistication, showcasing the original architecture while inviting a light and airy feel throughout the home.
