The Teen Bedroom project was an exciting transformation completed within a tight two-day timeline, capitalizing on the opportunity created when both Dad and son were away on a trip. The goals were clear: to create a vibrant and functional space tailored to a teenager's needs while ensuring a high level of surprise and delight upon their return. Collaboration with the young man's mother was essential, as we curated decor elements over several weeks, meticulously selecting pieces that would resonate with his personality and style. One of the primary challenges of the existing room was the absence of overhead lighting, which we addressed by installing recessed can lights, strategically placed to enhance the room's ambiance. Additionally, a stylish ceiling fan with an integrated light kit was incorporated to provide both comfort and illumination, ensuring that the room could serve as a cozy retreat for relaxation or focused homework sessions. The inclusion of a new door was a thoughtful touch, offering the young man a private sanctuary away from siblings, fostering a sense of independence in his own space. The design choices reflected a transitional aesthetic, blending modern and traditional elements to create a harmonious environment. Textures and colors were chosen carefully to reflect a youthful yet sophisticated look, making the room not just a place for sleep but an inviting area for study and creativity. A unique personal touch was added with a photo that he had sent to his sister, cleverly integrated into the decor, serving as a sentimental focal point that captures the spirit of family connection. Upon his return, the young man was thrilled to discover his newly designed bedroom, expressing genuine surprise and excitement. This project, completed in 2018 with a budget ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, showcases the power of thoughtful design and collaboration, resulting in a space that is not only functional but also a true reflection of its inhabitant’s personality.
