About This Project

The Brown Flake project in DeKalb, IL, initiated in 2019, was undertaken to rectify a poorly executed flooring installation from 2017. The previous contractor’s work led to significant issues, including an inadequate sealer application, uneven distribution of flake, and peeling sections of the flo. These problems arose primarily due to improper preparation of the underlying concrete, which was not treated with a dustless diamond grind, and potential moisture issues that went unaddressed. High Moisture Vapor Emissions can severely compromise floor integrity if a vapor barrier isn’t employed, and this was a clear contributor to the earlier failures. In designing a solution for the Brown Flake project, our team emphasized quality craftsmanship and materials. We opted for a contemporary aesthetic that aligns with modern design trends, enhancing the overall appeal of the space. The selected materials included durable, high-quality flake components and a reliable sealer designed to withstand UV exposure, thus preventing the apron from bleaching under sunlight.
