Sierra Morena by Waves Landscape Design Waves Landscape Design is happy to present the Sierra Morena a stunning transformation right in the heart of Carlsbad, California. This strategic landscape design took lots of work to create maximum aesthetics and utility for the specific homeowner. With the use of native landscaping, beautiful hardscaping, and sustainable design, there is no mistaking a clear coherence with the natural beauty of the coastal surroundings. The Sierra Morena has a stunning array of drought-tolerant landscaping for our local climate, including succulents, herbs, and grasses for some variety. We utilized locally sourced stone for pathways and walls to provide creativity and to connect the pieces with the natural landscape. A new custom outdoor area with an ample fire pit and seating was added, which has become a gathering space for family and friends alike. The gentle curves created by the pathways allow for a specific movement or flow throughout the space. One of the challenges we faced on this was the topography of the site and how uneven it was. This made it more difficult to create a level place for everything hardscaped to go. We came up with creative grading solutions to provide a level stable area and we installed proper drainage, to address water run-off, as well to protect the landscape installation. More importantly, we created the design with sustainability in mind, used permeable materials, be more cognizant of groundwater recharge and less water-use for everything hardscaped. The outcome of the Sierra Morena is a beautiful landscape that adds curb appeal and shows the personality and values of the owners. Beautifully selected materials, craftsmanship, and design led to an outdoor refuge that captures attention visually and spiritually. The clients were enamored with the overall positive nature of the finish and how the whole provides a linkage of nature of utility.
