The Country Craftsman project represents a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetic elegance, transforming a cramped ranch into a spacious family home that reflects the essence of its wooded surroundings in Topsfield, MA. Commissioned by Santosuousso Construction, the goal was to create an inviting and sophisticated living space that showcased the builder's craftsmanship while accommodating the needs of a growing family. Through a series of collaborative meetings, it became evident that a shingle-style Craftsman design would perfectly align with both the site’s natural beauty and the family's personal style. To achieve this vision, a substantial addition was constructed on one side of the existing home, expanding the living area significantly. This addition was complemented by a smaller extension on the opposite side, which enhanced an existing bump-out. The adjustments made to the gable rooflines were executed with precision, ensuring a seamless integration between the new structures and the original design. This careful attention to detail not only preserved the home’s character but also enhanced its overall architectural appeal. The project prominently features deep eaves, a hallmark of the Craftsman style, which adds depth and shadow, enriching the home’s profile against the landscape.
