The remodel project, aptly named "44 Years Waiting for This Remodel," reflects the long-awaited transformation of a home cherished by a retired couple in Kentwood, MI. This project marks the first substantial update in over four decades, prompted by a desire for modern enhancements while maintaining the home’s original charm. The journey began with the installation of new engineered hardwood flooring throughout the residence, which set the tone for a refreshed and inviting atmosphere. Initially focused on updating countertops and backsplashes, the couple quickly realized that the aging cabinetry detracted from their vision. To achieve a more open and airy feel, upper cabinets between the kitchen and dining room were removed, allowing for improved site lines, while the overall footprint of the space remained unchanged. This thoughtful approach ensured that the remodel respected the home’s original layout while breathing new life into the interiors. After waiting for the city water hookup, the remodel commenced with the master bathroom, followed by the laundry room, and culminated in the kitchen. The bathroom features a cohesive design with the same tile flooring as the laundry room, a smart choice for cost efficiency. The shower walls are adorned with Evolution matte light gray 12x24 subway tiles from Virginia Tile, creating a contemporary yet timeless backdrop. The penny round tiles from Glazzio, in the Gala pattern, showcase extraordinary craftsmanship and attention to detail, adding a touch of elegance and texture that elevates the overall design. Countertops were chosen in the stunning MetroQuartz color Allure, complemented by undermount rectangular bowls, providing both functionality and style. The outcome of this remodel is a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, resulting in a home that reflects the couple's love for their neighborhood while meeting their current needs. This project not only enhances their living space but also celebrates the memories of 44 years in their beloved home.
