Henry Island Estate In collaboration with Richard Hartlage Land Morphology, the Henry Island estate showcases the height of sophisticated planting and landscape design. This estate settled in Bainbridge Island beautifully combines nature and liveable outdoor space. The main element of the estate is the terraced garden that has been thoughtfully designed using a colorful palette of native plant material that looks beautiful through all seasons. We used sustainable materials for the pathways and retaining walls, such as local stone or reclaimed wood, which we felt connects the space to the landscape. One of the biggest challenges of the Henry Island estate was the steep topography of the site. Through drainage, our designers found creative ways to drainage and created connections while keeping the design aesthetic. Through deep exploration of the site qualities and options for seating, we chose to create various seating areas with custom benches and fire pits for use in moments of relaxation or leisure with family and friends, all with the essence of the Pacific Northwest in mind. The water feature is another element of the design that brings calm sound to the space and lighting fixtures were planned to highlight the landscape at night. The estate all came together to unify the user’s experience of landscape and design creating a truly dynamic outdoor place of pleasure for the client and their guests.
