About This Project

The "Skim Before and After" project involved a meticulous transformation of an older Craftsman-style bedroom in Seattle, WA, which faced the challenge of dated and unsightly painted-over wallpaper. Rather than opting for a complete gut renovation, we implemented a more efficient and cost-effective solution that preserved the room's essence while achieving a fresh and modern look. Our skilled team carefully assessed the wallpaper situation and decided to cut out the seams, allowing us to effectively manage the surfaces without the need for removal. Using a specialized wallpaper sealing primer, we prepared the walls and ceilings for the next phase of restoration. The application of a skim coat with drywall mud provided an even and smooth surface, effectively concealing any remnants of the wallpaper's texture. Following the skim-coating, a thorough sanding was performed to ensure a flawless finish, allowing for optimal adhesion of the primer and paint. We chose Benjamin Moore paint for the project, renowned for its durability and rich color palette, while also incorporating Sherwin Williams products where appropriate to maintain flexibility in achieving the desired aesthetic. The craftsmanship in this project is evident in the attention to detail, from the precise spraying of the millwork to the careful application of paint using brushes and rollers for the walls and ceilings. The final outcome speaks volumes; the bedroom now boasts a clean, modern appearance that feels both inviting and sophisticated.
