The Rugh Kitchen Remodel, located in the elegant community of Alamo Heights, TX, showcases a stunning transformation of a kitchen originally constructed in 1965. Although the home had undergone various upgrades over the years, the kitchen remained a relic of its past. The homeowners sought a modern open-concept design that also embraced a subtle Tuscan aesthetic, aiming to create a warm and inviting space perfect for both cooking and entertaining. KM Builders/Remodeling undertook a comprehensive redesign of the kitchen, expanding the layout to incorporate a spacious working island topped with luxurious soapstone countertops and a travertine sink. The custom cabinetry, finished in rustic cherry, features a pillow edge raised panel design, beautifully complemented by undercabinet lighting that enhances the room's ambiance. Each cabinet is equipped with soft-close motion hardware and cleverly designed hidden pull-out drawers for easy access to kitchen gadgets, marrying functionality with aesthetic appeal. To accommodate the owners' desire for a larger breakfast area, an addition was constructed, crowned with a new standing seam metal roof. This extension seamlessly integrates with the existing structure, utilizing a portion of the adjacent naturally landscaped area to create a serene dining experience. The kitchen and breakfast area are unified by an exquisite boveda ceiling, featuring a faux brick finish and concealed lighting that adds a touch of drama and sophistication. Noteworthy elements of this remodel include a hidden safe discreetly integrated into one of the kitchen cabinets, addressing essential home security needs, and a cleverly concealed pull-out desk that serves as a functional workspace without disrupting the kitchen's aesthetic flow.
