In the heart of Roswell, GA, the "Kitchen With Old World Charm" project transformed a builder-grade kitchen into a stunning space that seamlessly blends traditional cabinetry with rustic overtones. Our clients, passionate about entertaining, sought a kitchen that not only showcased their style but also facilitated gatherings. The journey began with a significant alteration: removing the wall that separated the living room from the kitchen. This strategic change created an expansive area that allowed us to design an oversized island, serving dual purposes as a welcoming gathering spot for guests and a functional workspace for the aspiring chef in the family. Crafted from reclaimed heart of pine sourced from a historic factory in Chicago, the island stands as a centerpiece of the kitchen, reflecting both character and craftsmanship. Complementing this, the semi-gloss, black lacquer cabinets feature a distressed finish, enhancing the rustic charm desired by the homeowners. To further enrich the aesthetic, we wrapped the micro-lam beam that supports the upper level of the house in the same reclaimed wood, skillfully distressing it with a shotgun technique to evoke a barn-like appearance. The hand-worked dovetail joints and walnut pegs exemplify meticulous craftsmanship. Adding to the kitchen's charm, the pantry boasts a handmade heart of pine screen door, featuring chicken wire for an authentic touch. This design choice introduces another layer of rustic appeal, perfectly aligned with the overall theme. Urban industrial elements subtly weave through the space with the inclusion of metal pulls on the cabinetry and metal-accented barstools, bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary styles. The outcome is a kitchen that beautifully captures old-world charm while meeting modern-day functionality, striking a perfect balance for family gatherings and culinary adventures.
