Rose Residence by Sutton Outdoor, LLC Located in the center of Independence, the Rose Residence demonstrates the craftsmanship and skill of Sutton Outdoor, LLC. Our work involved taking a small yard and creating a lovely outdoor space, while respecting the natural beauty of this section of Kansas City. We began work on the Rose Residence with an extensive design phase, where we worked closely with the owners to help them realize their vision of peacefulness and elegance. We embraced that vision by utilizing a variety of native plants, including bright roses, ferns, and ornamental grasses, creating a textural and colorful tapestry of plant material that would bloom multiple times during the growing season. We enhanced the plantings through the use of our custom presets of locally sourced flagstone, carefully woven together. The pathways led to a beautiful seating area, designed as a connection to nature and a delightful outdoor space. We faced our biggest challenge when we discovered that the land was not sloping correctly and had drainage issues. We were careful to have our highly skilled craftsmen grade the landscape in a manner that would allow water to correctly flow, and to prevent erosion. We also designed, and built, a drainage system to manage high rain events. The grading and drainage work set the stage for a stable, workable space for the new garden beds and other hardscape features. It was a delightful addition of a cedar pergola - sustainably sourced - that allowed us to elevate the outdoor experience further by providing a shaded spot for the owners to retreat to. We hung climbing roses and fairy lights to provide an inviting, magical spot for evening gathering for family and friends. Upon completion, the Rose Residence emanated warmth, and the clients were delighted! They felt as though their expectations were exceeded. The attention to detail partnered with the sustainable and durable quality of the design and installation will ensure longevity and ease for many years to come. The homeowners can gather, relax, and enjoy being outside and in nature, right in their own backyard.
