Shoreline Cottage, located in the picturesque Pine Orchard, CT, is a stunning example of thoughtful renovation and design that honors its rich history while embracing modern functionality. Originally constructed in the 1890s, the cottage faced several unsightly updates throughout the 20th century that obscured its original charm. The owners sought to restore the home with a design that reflects the serene shoreline character of the neighborhood, while also addressing critical structural issues and reimagining the layout to meet their contemporary lifestyle needs. Significant renovations were made to the home’s façade, including the removal of a dilapidated upper story wrap-around porch that had overwhelmed the original architecture. In its place, the south-facing entry was transformed into an inviting open porch, featuring a beautifully crafted colonnaded bluestone patio. This new outdoor space provides a perfect setting for family gatherings, where they can relax and enjoy breathtaking waterfront views. Inside, the reconfiguration of the homeowner's en suite bedroom exemplifies the project’s meticulous craftsmanship. The space was expanded to include custom millwork and built-in features that enhance both aesthetics and practicality. Full-height windows flood the room with natural light, while French doors lead to a second-story balcony that invites the outdoors in and offers a private retreat with stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape. Throughout the renovation process, a careful selection of materials was paramount, ensuring that the finishes not only reflect the cottage's historical roots but also provide durability and comfort. The outcome is a harmonious blend of traditional design and modern living, successfully revitalizing Shoreline Cottage while preserving its unique character.
