The Pearson 2.0 project represents a sophisticated synthesis of modern living and aesthetic sensibility, achieved by merging two adjacent apartments in a high-rise building near the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. This undertaking was driven by the clients' evolving needs, particularly the desire for an environment conducive to both family life and remote work. With breathtaking views of Lake Michigan as a focal point, the design philosophy centers around maximizing natural light and enhancing spatial relationships throughout the home. Upon entering the apartment, one is immediately greeted by a panoramic view of the lake, a direct result of the thoughtful layout that prioritizes sightlines. The design avoids conventional full-height walls, opting instead for open spaces that define areas without sacrificing the flow and connectivity of the environment. This approach not only fosters an inviting atmosphere but also enhances the sense of spaciousness, making the most of the generous outdoor spaces available. The exterior elements of the project were carefully considered to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. Existing openings onto the terrace were enlarged, allowing for an uninterrupted connection that invites the outside in. Retractable awnings were incorporated to provide shade and protect the interior from the elements, particularly from water dripping down from neighboring balconies, ensuring that the terrace remains a usable and enjoyable extension of the living space. Materials were chosen with both durability and aesthetics in mind, reflecting a contemporary design ethos while ensuring longevity.
