The started with a blank piece of land that quite literally needed the density of vegetation and foliage into an oasis of lush and green. The client wanted to embrace both the natural beauty of the local flora and vegetation, while adding some modern elements in the design. The new design uniquely layered in plant materials focused on extremely drought-tolerant, native plants (e.g., agave, desert willows, etc.), sustaining visual interests and a sustainable landscape. The use of the natural texture of stone pathways and decorative boulders supported natural flow through the space while also adding a texture factor to the landscape surfaces. A remarkable part of this includes an inviting outdoor living area with custom built pergola that provides shade and comfort. After careful consideration, sturdy and aesthetically pleasing teak wood was selected to form the outdoor living shade structure which can withstand the desert elements. Additionally, soft outdoor lighting accents were implemented to highlight the beauty of the landscaping once twilight approached. After finding solutions around the existing soil quality and overhead irrigation system, a drip irrigation system was designed and installed to promote healthy plant life and conserve water usage. This truly advances sustainability practices while ensuring the continuous vitality over an entire growing season. In the end, the client is thrilled with the end result, as they now have a beautiful sanctuary that reflects their tastes and preferences along with the surrounding beauty that can be found in the landscape.
