The Rosedale Ave Basement Remodel is a remarkable transformation of a 1939 bungalow located in Bethesda, MD, showcasing a complete renovation that has turned a once dark and dated space into a bright, open, and welcoming home. The original basement featured a maze of oddly shaped rooms with low bulkheads that created an uncomfortable and claustrophobic atmosphere. Our team undertook a comprehensive gut renovation, reimagining the entire layout to enhance functionality and aesthetic appeal. Key to this redesign was the relocation of the laundry room, which was previously a cramped closet adjacent to the family room. This change not only improved accessibility but also allowed us to expand the bathroom significantly, providing a more comfortable and spacious experience. The removal of a stair wall further contributed to the open concept, while new windows were installed to maximize natural light, creating an airy environment that invites relaxation and enjoyment. A standout feature of the remodel is the introduction of an art nook, cleverly positioned in the space previously occupied by the old laundry closet. This dedicated area offers budding artists a perfect spot to create and showcase their art projects, adding a personal touch to the home. Additionally, custom under-stair storage cubbies were designed to provide practical solutions for stowing away children’s toys, extra linens, and other household items, marrying functionality with clever design. The aesthetic choices made throughout the project reflect a harmonious blend of modern and traditional elements. The solid stair wall was replaced with an open wood slat design, enhancing sightlines while the natural wood complements the light oak floors above, ensuring a cohesive look throughout the remodeled space.
