About This Project

In the heart of Louisville, KY, the Modern Classic project transformed a 40-year-old home into a vibrant, eclectic space tailored to fit a modern family's lifestyle. Originally designed for a single occupant, the home lacked the warmth and functionality necessary for family living. Our renovation efforts began with a comprehensive remodel of the kitchen, where we gutted the existing layout to create a bright and inviting culinary hub. This new kitchen not only serves as a space for meal preparation but also as a gathering point for family activities. To enhance the home’s overall flow and usability, we added an entirely new wing dedicated to children's bedrooms and bathrooms. This extension seamlessly integrates with the existing structure while providing much-needed space for the family. The design choice to reconfigure the home’s layout allowed for a cohesive transition between rooms, promoting a sense of unity that was previously absent. Interior design played a pivotal role in this project, with the family's existing collection of artwork serving as inspiration. A striking Melissa Meyer painting was prominently displayed over the mantel, guiding our palette and design choices. To modernize the dining area, we repurposed the family's traditional furniture by having it lacquered in a crisp white finish, which dramatically shifted the room's aesthetic. The introduction of contemporary, clean-lined lighting fixtures further modernized the space, effectively eliminating the old-world feel. To inject personality and vibrancy into the dining room, we opted for a bold Ralph Lauren fuchsia alligator print wallpaper. This choice added color, texture, and visual interest, creating a dynamic atmosphere that reflects the family's character. The culmination of these thoughtful design choices resulted in a home that not only meets the practical needs of a growing family but also showcases a unique blend of modern elegance and personal history, truly embodying the essence of modern classic living.
