About This Project

The Corner Shelves project showcases an innovative approach to maximizing space in a transitional living room setting. The concept originated from a request to create built-in corner shelves that not only serve a functional purpose but also enhance the aesthetic appeal of the room. The design process began with a meticulous layout, determining the dimensions and materials required for the build. The final shelves were crafted to fit a 2-foot by 2-foot area, with a depth of 10 inches, perfectly complementing the surrounding dec. To bring this vision to life, high-quality materials were sourced from a local lumberyard. A single sheet of 4-foot by 8-foot, 5/8-inch thick AC plywood formed the main structure of the shelves, providing durability and a smooth surface. Additionally, several 2-inch by 2-inch by 4-foot Douglas fir pieces were selected to create a robust frame that adds support and stability. To finish the look, 8-foot lengths of 2 7/16-inch tall Santa Fe door casing from Kelleher were incorporated, enhancing the overall design with a touch of elegance. The craftsmanship involved in this project is evident in the attention to detail, particularly in the way the plywood was cut and assembled with the framing. After constructing the shelves, the finishing touches were applied to ensure a seamless integration with the living room's existing dec. The completed corner shelves not only provide a practical storage solution but also serve as a stylish feature that draws the eye. While the project is finished, a final coat of paint on the undersides is planned to achieve a polished look. Overall, this project exemplifies how thoughtful design and quality materials can transform a simple corner into a functional and visually appealing space, making it an excellent addition to any home.
