Welcome Center Plaza at Brookgreen Gardens The Welcome Center Plaza at Brookgreen Gardens which was completed by Environmental Concepts, LLC has showcased our landscape beauty and excellence. Located in the heart of America one of the Southeast US's finest horticultural gardens, this was seen and designed to facilitate a warm and inviting instead to visitors and a seamless transition of the building, the sight and the garden. When designing these areas, we attempted to achieve a balance between native plantings, ornamental grasses, and seasonal blooms to maintain year-round color and assure the ecological viability of the design. Using locally sourced stone for paths and seating provided not only an attractive look but also a durable surface for the coastal climate. Since they are working with notoriously poor soil conditions for drainage, they used permeable pavers. We encountered a few challenges during the , such as existing site grades and proper water management. The team successfully addressed these challenges with creative grading and stormwater solutions, including socially distanced rain gardens that both manage stormwater, as well as, become educational amenities for visitors. The end result is a beautifully sensory Welcome Center Plaza with sinuous paths lined in colorful vegetation, bumps to hang out, and interpretive signage to enhance the experience of visitors. The result is a lovely blending of beauty and purpose and an oasis environment that echoes the site history at Brookgreen Gardens.
