Work description: Vibrant Brooklyn Rooftop Garden Amber Freda Garden Design is pleased to announce the completion of the Colorful Brooklyn Rooftop Garden, a lively rooftop garden in the arm-pit of Brooklyn. The converted an unused rooftop space into a green, multi-level garden that integrates nature and the city. We started the design process by doing an inventory on the particular issues surrounding the rooftop, such as weight limits on the structure and high wind zones. We chose purposely lightweight planters and a variety of colourful drought-tolerant plantings (yes, even in Canada nay, especially in Canada!) that included succulents, ornamental grasses and flowering perennials that bloom and maintain colour all year whilst keeping maintenance to a minimum. Incorporating natural materials was essential. Immerging the garden and street together with sustainably sourced hardwood decking to offer paths and seating. Discreet decorative stone features and a drip irrigation system also ensure proper water management, which is especially crucial for the microclimate above the newly constructed roof. Custom vertical gardens were also incorporated into the design to maximize space and serve as a creative artistic element, serving as the perfect backdrop not just for relaxation but entertaining too. We managed logistical challenges of getting the materials to the rooftop and balancing sun and shade to ensure the plants thrived. The final product is a stunning garden that the client loves, and provides a bubble to escape the city. Full of a variety of colors, textures, and scents, it is both a visual marvel atop a uniquely crafted residence and one of the stunning s designed and constructed by Amber Freda Garden Design serving Brooklyn, Manhattan, and neighborhoods beyond. This also shows how with the right approach even the smallest spaces can become fantastic retreats, and represents a jewel in the Brooklyn skyline.
