About This Project

Landscapes by McDonough Landscaping Located in Newport, McDonough Landscaping had the opportunity to design and implement the 'Landscapes' . Transforming what was simply an outdoor space into a beautiful retreat was no small task. This was an incredibly involved collaboration in which ultimately the goal was to combine beauty with functionality to achieve the client's dream of a peaceful retreat. The encompassed many elements of landscaping, and none jumped out more than our gorgeous selection of native plants, all chosen for their tolerant nature to Newport's coastal climate and easy upkeep. We created warm bluestone paths from locally sourced abundantly available, which we placed throughout the rich flower beds toward a seating area of all hand-crafted benches of turned and durable wood. One of the more challenging tasks was the slope of the yard; nonetheless, we accomplished this feat by developing terraced gardens to improve the scope of design while allowing drainage to easily pass through the landscape and not to create erosion of plant material. Our crew used quality soil amendments along with quality mulch to best treat the plants for longevity. To create more of an ambiance, we positioned a beautiful water feature, which serves as a focal point and a way to attract local wildlife while subtly providing relaxing sounds of water. The soft flowing water adds to the lush landscape and invites the user to receive the ambiance and benefit from the reflective process. Ultimately, the outcome of the landscape was beautiful and exceeded the client's expectations. Between the material selections and the design elements, the client was thrilled with the outdoor space created and the ability of family and friends to appreciate nature's beauty for many years of up keeping of the landscape.
